Shop, Eat and Drink

Madrid’s a big city, so you can find anything you want. Here we’ve focussed on local places that we enjoy, but we have sampled only a small percentage of what’s on offer, so we welcome your feedback on places you have found and enjoyed.

The local supermarket is Dia, a branch of the main supermarket chain in Madrid, it’s 50 metres away on our street. It has all the essentials, but if you want a bigger branch, there’s one ten minutes away on the corner of Calle de Toledo and Puerta Cerrada. You will find umpteen greengrocers, butchers and delicatessens in Mercado de la Cebada, up the street on your right. The better-known and more touristy Mercado de San Miguel is a ten-minute walk.

For foods that you can’t easily find, the place to go is the food hall of El Corte Ingles at Sol.

Bread, cheese and pastries have a page of their own, as have Bars and Cafes.
